Manufacturing & Quality Control
The Production Center
The production center is located at an altitude of 3500 meters. Not far from Machu Picchu, Cusco, the former center of the great Inca culture, nestles in the picturesque surroundings of the high mountain valley.
The home of the Incas is also the home of APU KUNTUR – more than 30 years ago, the first production facilities were still located in private living rooms, until 2006 when the first dedicated building for production was occupied.
Having long outgrown the conditions and needs, the modern production center was inaugurated in 2018 and has since provided all employees on-site with a secure workplace – not just figuratively, but also literally thanks to the production center built to European standards.
Visit us on-site! Many customers and business partners have already personally visited our production facility and were able to get an impression of how our APU KUNTUR products are made.
A look behind the scenes
We take you behind the scenes to see how our employees transform alpaca fibers into luxurious clothing and accessories. As a company committed to sustainability and fair trade, it is important for us to show you how these beautiful items are created.

Awareness
Proximity to nature and sustainability
The shearing of alpacas takes place annually in a gentle manner that does not harm the animals. Alpacas graze in Peru at altitudes where other agriculture is hardly possible. They are herbivores that only nibble on grass, leaving the roots intact.
Since alpacas have soft foot pads instead of hooves, they do not damage the soil. This creates the foundation to preserve the millennia-old heritage of the Incas for future generations.

The Human at the Center
In our family business in Cusco, Peru, not only production is at the center but especially the people who work there. With amenities such as our daycare, free meals, as well as fair wages and benefits, we are setting new standards for a work environment that supports not only professional but also personal development.
In our trade relationships, we also focus on close partnerships to guarantee our customers fair and sustainable products.
In the new production center with light-filled rooms, we were able to create a beautiful environment for the small children of our employees. Two trained caregivers lovingly take care of the children, there is a reading and crafting area, a playground, and since 2022, a new nature garden.
Nelly always considered it important that her employees can enjoy a complete, free, and warm lunch. For this purpose, our own company cafeteria was created. Señora Monica, who previously worked in production and is a single mother of five children, was very happy to take on the role of cook.
Since November 2020, we have also employed deaf employees at our production facility, who would otherwise find it difficult to secure employment or social security in Peru. For this purpose, 14 of our hearing employees are now taking lessons in sign language to enable effortless communication. Meanwhile, three deaf employees are working at the production facility in Cusco.
In our production, there are always leftovers. From these, we create alpaca blankets that we donate in remote, small villages of Peru. Here, people still live very traditionally and simply, in harmony with nature. In November 2021, APU KUNTUR was able to bring a little joy to many families with the donation of over 500 blankets.
Our commitment to
Diospi Suyana
The majority of indigenous communities in Peru have only limited access to medical assistance. Diospi Suyana is committed to addressing this deficit – a cause we feel connected to and therefore gladly support.
With the hospital funded by donations, Diospi Suyana provides medical assistance primarily to children and needy families – regardless of their financial means. Highly qualified doctors and medical staff are dedicated to providing the best possible treatment to those in need. In addition to medical care, the organization also advocates for education and pastoral care to create long-term perspectives.
Our support for Diospi Suyana is a reflection of our deep connection to Peru and our belief that every person deserves good healthcare. We are grateful to be part of this valuable commitment.
